Kia Name: Zero
What is this kiamaras dream vacation?: “Three, two, one… zero!” He heard them chant and cheer as the the rocket rumbled to life. Zero was feeling any but the excitement the people around him were feeling. No, instead his heart was in his throat and stomach threatening to empty itself anxiety. He was watching from the sidelines as his first major project as an engineer started hurtling itself towards space, carrying two precious lives within. His brain flipping through different disastrous scenarios that could happen like it was the rocket flying towards the moon. Seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours as the rocket climbed higher and higher towards orbit. Zero could barely take a breath, and all the background noise became muffled as his vision became tunneled, focused on that screen. It was only when the rocket reached orbit and successfully separated from the boosters that Zero realized he could breathe again. Cheers erupted from inside the control center, but Zero’s anxiety became so overwhelming he had to race outside as fast as possible to get fresh air as his panic attack reached its peak. He collapsed towards the ground. On his hands and knees he started sobbing. Those lives were in his hands and if something had gone wrong, he could have never stopped blaming himself. He always thought he wanted to be an engineer, but today just proved why he was just not cut out for this high stress, high stakes position. Zero attempted to calm himself by breathing meaningfully as his mind reeled, but he was still feeling unsteady… or was the ground actually shifting beneath him? No, that didn’t feel like it was coming from him… As the thought crossed his mind, the ground opened up beneath Zero and he went tumbling into the rift.
Zero started awake and flew up to a sitting position. He placed a hand to the back of his neck and found it covered in a cold sweat. His breathing slowed as he remembered where he was. Zero took a deep breath in of the outdoor Solarian air. He hadn’t meant to actually doze off, but he had ended up falling asleep beneath a tree near his wheat field. He wasn’t dreaming anymore, despite how vivid that dream was. Granted it was based in reality… That was his life right before he fell into a rift to Solaria, something he was quite confused about at first. His whole life he had created… or rather his parents had wished for him, gone in an instant. Zero felt like he should’ve been upset as he came to that realization, and he tried to be, but all he felt was relief. Despite being gifted as a child, he had never wanted to pursue engineering more than the little projects he built on his own to make his life easier. But he was pushed into being someone he never wanted to be. But he had been convinced that his parents’ dream for him was his own. And now suddenly all the pressure of having to perform as an aerospace engineer was lifted. The rift had pulled him into the greatest vacation of his life, one he never had to return from. He pushed himself to his feet and took a deep breath. His chest puffed with pride as he looked out across his ranch, something he had built from scratch after coming to Solaria. Something that he chosen to do on his own, and not because of anyone else. “Time to get back to vacationing,” he purred as he went to finish the rest of his daily chores on the ranch.
